A group of ten found guilty of online harassment targeting Brigitte Macron

A Paris court has found guilty ten people for engaging in the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the partner of French President, Emmanuel Macron.
The defendants faced allegations of circulating fabrications regarding her gender identity and sexuality, in addition to posting defamatory statements about the couple's 24-year age gap.
The court handed down suspended prison sentences of a maximum of eight months to the convicted individuals. The complete verdict has yet to be released.
A circulating false narrative alleging that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has existed since her husband's first electoral victory in 2017.
This recent ruling in France coincides with the Macrons initiating a legal action for defamation in the United States of America against political commentator Candace Owens, who has also voiced analogous false narratives about the first lady's gender.
Their legal filing alleges that Owens brushed aside substantial counter-evidence that refuted her assertions choosing instead to platforming known conspiracy theorists.
Owens has regularly repeated these allegations on her show and online platforms, and in March 2024 stated that she would risk all her credibility on her insistence that Mrs. Macron is biologically male.
Brigitte Macron originally became acquainted with her now-husband when she taught at his high school.
The two married in 2007, when the man who would become president was 29 and she was in her mid-50s.
